Destined to SOAR.

This interview series is aimed at celebrating, recognising and promoting the incredible talent and ferocious courage of our young women of tomorrow.

Let's recognise the magnificent effort of girls' in sport across all codes!

Today our interview is with youth sensation Pixie Richards. Soar Active had the privilege to catch up with and chat about her love of skateboarding.

1. Pixie, tell us about your early life?

Pixie: I have had a pretty adventurous life so far! Luckily I have been able to enjoy all sorts of fun sports such as skiing, snowboarding, Gymnastics, rock climbing and lots more. I absolutely love being active and having fun! I have an older brother and sister and have always loved trying to keep up with them and showing everyone just how capable little kids can be!

2. So how did you discover Skateboarding?

Pixie: I was walking down the street in Queenstown, New Zealand and a Skater came flying past me on a skateboard. I straight away said ‘Mum, I want to do that! What is that called? I want to try it!’. So my Mum booked me into skateboarding lessons at LVLUP and I was instantly addicted and fell in love with skateboarding!

3. What did you do next?

Pixie: I started skating nearly everyday!

4. How do you balance skateboarding and managing school?

Pixie: I haven’t yet started school, I’m mini but mighty! I do have a tutor though who is helping me learn to read and write and get ready for starting school one day. She is like a real life Mary Poppins. She helps me so much!

5. What do you do in your downtime?

Pixie: I love to skate more than anything but if I am not skating, I like to go the playground or the beach and also love going on adventures with my family.

6. What makes you feel happy, brave, and strong?

Pixie: Skateboarding! When I am skating, I feel happy, brave, strong and it gives me the most incredible sense of freedom!

7. Tell us about a special moment in the last year?

Pixie: An extra special moment was entering into my first skateboarding competition ‘Bowlzilla’ at Elanora skate bowl. I hope I managed to inspire other young girls to believe in themselves and to know that they are brave, strong and capable and that girls can do anything!

8. What is your ultimate goal?

Pixie: To be happy. I hope to have a long and wonderful skateboarding journey that contributes to a wonderful life. I hope to continue to inspire other skaters around the world to get out there and try their best.

9. What's your favourite attribute about yourself?

Pixie: My willingness to try hard things and my determination to always improve and progress.

10. Favourite song on repeat right now?

Pixie: Two Friends - Amy Shark

11. What has skateboarding taught you about life?

Pixie: Skateboarding has taught me so much already. Like how to be brave, resilient and determined.

12. Who is someone that inspires you right now?

Pixie: I am so lucky to be surrounded by some of the best skaters in the world at LVLUP and have the most amazing skate family of friends there.

I am super inspired by Arisa Trew and Jada Ward. They are the absolute definition of brave, strong and fierce skater girls!

12. What would you say to other young females about following their dreams?

Pixie: Love what you do and keep pushing to break the barriers of what others believe is possible. We are all amazing in our own special way, so get out there and have fun! However that looks for you. Girls can do anything!
